What do you know about Tanzania?

Tanzania is a day old today. It is located in the eastern part of Africa. The country has 120 identifiable ethnic groups. The official language of the country is Swahili and English, its also has different religions: Christianity, Islam and Traditional religions. Their currency is the Tanzania Shillingi. The mineral deposits include gold, diamonds, gemstone, coal and natural gas. The country was actually known as Tanganyika in 1920. Tanganyika gained independence in 1961 and became a republic in 1962. In 1964, it united with Zanzibar under the name Tanzania and was led by President Julius Nyererere until 1985. The country subsequently experienced both political and economic struggles; it held its first multiparty elections in 1995. Why my interest in this country? A good question, we both need this information because it will help us know the country more. The truth is I am a Nigerian but the things in Tanzania make me wish that my own country will one day get to this point. Some of these things i like and noticed about Tanzania are explained below. Tanzania remains one of the poorest countries in the world, it has had success in attracting both donors and investors. Its annual growthrate has averaged 6.7% since 2006; one of the best in sub-sahara Africa. Power supplies are erratic and fall short of demand. As at 2010 it recorded a population of 45 million. Here is what i love most, when it comes to education. English is used as its medium in secondary school while Swahil is used in primary school, thereby making the students to understand and speak the two official languages of the country. Would you believe the country has had the same president for 6 years? Yes, Jakaya Kikwete has been president since his election in December 2005 and is now serving his second term, having won his re-election in October 2010. Under his government, Tanzania' s foreign debt was wiped. Any country can be like Tanzania if not better all it needs is to have a common dream and sh

are ideas between the government and the citizens. Tanzania is a wonderful place and i know you want to agree with me . As it celebrates its day today, i wish the people of Tanzania a wonderful celebration.
